WELD, Maine — Either it’s a joke or the mailman here brings a ladder when he delivers the mail to the Jacksons’ place. How else would he get the mail into the box mounted on a tree limb more than 10 feet above the ground?

For some Mainers, an ordinary, humdrum mailbox simply won’t do. They add their personal touch, expressing their creativity or sense of humor, knowing it will catch the eye of passing motorists and hopefully give them a little chuckle.

In this second part of a series, photographer Robert F. Bukaty shows us some of the unusual mailboxes that caught his eye on his recent journeys across the state.
