LEWISTON, Maine — Baxter Brewing, founded by 27-year-old Luke Livingston, has had incredible success in just two years. The company sold nearly 5,000 barrels of its beer in 2010 and is growing. And in December, Livingston was named one of the nation’s 30 people under the age of 30 to watch in the area of food and wine.

Baxter Brewing bottles its beers in cans instead of bottles, one of just a handful microbreweries in the country to do so. Livingston says cans are better for the environment, better for keeping the beer fresh and easier to carry around.

At the 2011 Maine Brewers Festival, BDN staffer Judy Long called Baxter’s Amber Road “one of the best tastes of the night.”
