The German utilities' industry association BDEW said Monday the solar power output from January through September rose from 16.5 gigawatt hours last year to 25 gigawatt hours in 2012. Germany decided last year to phase out nuclear power by 2022 and replace it with renewable energies.

Spain, the fourth largest economy among the 17 countries that use the euro, is in its second recession in three years.
