ORRINGTON — On the afternoon of Oct. 30, 2011, Joseph and Alola Morrison celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by having a party at the Black Bear Inn in Orono. Their son, Mark Giffin Morrison and wife, Candace Clewley Morrison, of Windham and daughter, Cheryl Morrison Ginsberg held a party in their honor. The night before there was a bad snowstorm that put a damper on the number attending from long distances. Fortunately all five grandchildren were there, Kristen L. Morrison, 21, and Gregory M. Morrison, 17, of Windham, Connor O. Morrison, 16, Olivia V. Morrison, 14, and Joseph Morrison, 10, of Biddeford; and Alola’s mother, Viola P. Giffin, 102 ½. Their wedding date was Nov. 25, 1961.
Mr. Morrison has been retired from being principal of Mary Snow School in Bangor for about 15 years. He had been in the Bangor school system for over 35 years. Mrs. Morrison has been involved with many facilities throughout her professional dietetic career of more than 50 years. They presently reside in Orrington. In 2006 their son, Kenneth B. Morrison, drowned while vacationing on Price Edward Island. He was and is sadly missed.
The couple would love to hear from friends of the past and would appreciate a note or card. There is no special secret to a long and prosperous marriage – except take one day at a time, love and respect one another and keep things in perspective along with keeping a sense of humor with the ordinary things that life will present to you.
