A woodstove is suspected of sparking a Sunday afternoon fire that heavily damaged a home at 494 Main St. in the Gouldsboro village of Birch Harbor. Gouldsboro Fire Chief Gary Grovogel said Monday that an investigator with the State Fire Marshal's Office will examine the scene of the two-story home owned by Chad Thibault, who has been remodeling the house. Volunteer firefighters from Gouldsboro, Winter Harbor, Sorrento, Sullivan and Hancock who responded found the house fully engulfed when they arrived on the scene just before 11 a.m. Thibault had insurance, Grovogel said. The Red Cross has been involved in relocating Thibault and a daughter.
