Cam Mowrer powers Orono football team past John Bapst in regular-season finale

ORONO, Maine — Cameron Mowrer rolled up 171 yards on 10 carries and scored four touchdowns Thursday night to propel Orono to a 48-16 LTC football victory over John Bapst at the University of Maine’s Alfond Stadium.

Mowrer turned in scoring jaunts of 67, 49 and 10 yards and also returned an interception 26 yards for a score to help the Red Riots improve to 5-3 in the regular-season finale for both squads.

Collin Clement also surpassed 100 yards, rushing for 115 yards on eight carries. That included an 18-yard touchdown scamper.

Quarterback Chad Orn complemented the ground assault by completing four of five passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Christian Mowrer also ran for 45 yards on 10 carries and Damien Heeger had a 56-yard TD reception.

Patrick Leonard paced John Bapst of Bangor (2-6) by gaining 109 yards on 14 carries. He also booted a 25-yard field goal.

Quarterback Spencer Baron completed 10 of 19 passes for 86 yards, including a 16-yard scoring toss to Jackson Leonard. He was intercepted twice. Andrew Detour made three catches for 31 yards.

The Red Riots built a comfortable 30-10 halftime advantage, scoring on each of their four possessions.

Cam Mowrer bolted 67 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game.

The Riots forced a punt, then drove 80 yards in nine plays. Cam Mowrer closed out the march with a 49-yard scoring dash off the left side and Orn’s conversion rush made it 14-0 with 2:46 left in the quarter.

John Bapst responded with a nine-play drive that covered 60 yards. Baron completed three passes, including a 16-yard TD toss to Jackson Leonard.

Patrick Leonard’s PAT kick made it 14-7.

The Red Riots answered quickly behind a 47-yard kickoff return by Christian Mowrer to the JB 49-yard line. Orono ran the ball eight straight times, with Clement running up the middle 18 yards for a score.

Clement added the conversion rush to put Orono on top 22-7 with 6:33 remaining in the half.

The Crusaders went to the air and got on the board again. Baron’s 20-yard pass to Detour helped set up Patrick Leonard’s 25-yard field goal.

The Red Riots converted again after a 44-yard completion from Orn to Christian Mowrer. Orn then found Keenan Collett alone in the end zone on a 10-yard TD strike that made it 30-10 with 27 seconds left in the half.

Orono tacked on three third-quarter scores to put the game out of reach.
