HANCOCK – Phillip and Mary Jane Bullard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 2, 2009, with a surprise party given in their honor by their children and grandchildren. Many friends and relatives attended. Mr. and Mrs. Bullard were married on March 21, 1959, in Alameda, Calif. Mr. Bullard retired after 20 years in the Navy. The couple resided in California, Maryland, Germany, Washington, D.C., and Virginia during their military years. In 1978 they returned to Maine where they made their home. Mr. Bullard worked in the office products business and started his own company, Systems Management Services, while Mrs. Bullard worked as a medical laboratory technician at St. Joseph and Mayo Regional hospitals. The couple retired in 2001, splitting their time between their camp on Piper Pond in Abbot and their home in Brooksville, Fla. In 2008 they sold their home on Piper Pond and moved to Hancock where they enjoy beautiful views of Mount Desert and the Atlantic Ocean. The couple have four sons, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Col. Steven Bullard and his wife, Janice, of Crestwood, Ky., and their three sons, Alex, Adam and Josh; Greg Bullard of Stockton Springs and his daughters, Meghan, Bridget, Allison and Courtney and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Ava and Jayden; Stuart Bullard and his wife, Lisa, of Bangor and their three sons, Daniel, Timothy and Matthew; and Robert Bullard of Bangor and his daughters, Samantha and Rebeka.
