BANGOR, Maine — Rain came down as mist at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course on Saturday evening and the now frozen trees made crackling noises as a light wind blew during the storm.
A popular city recreational area, the course was criss-crossed with ski grooves and snowshoe post-holes, now frozen solid. Freezing rain covered the still operating Pepsi machine, pine trees and golf greens.
Meteorologists expected up to three-quarters of an inch of ice accumulation late Saturday into Sunday. On Saturday evening, BDN visuals editor Brian Feulner went out to photograph still lifes during the start of the storm.
According to Accuweather.com, with temperatures in the 20s, Mainers can expect hazardous icy conditions late into Sunday evening.
