Silk designer Michael Shyka has been creating handmade garment designs for more than 15 years. After attending the Parsons School of Design in New York City, Shyka worked in the fashion hubs of New York and Miami Beach before returning his native Maine to be with family.

Shyka works out of a shared studio space on Park Street in downtown Bangor. All of his silk designs are hand-painted and form garments of all kinds, from scarves to kimonos.

“It’s such a sensuous fabric to with with … I’m all about the colors. I love the color,” said Shyka.
