HOUSTON — Allison M. Sawyer and Roel Verhaak exchanged wedding vows on May 6, 2011, at The Inn on Peaks Island in Portland, Maine, with Helen Rankin officiating.
The bride is the daughter of John and Pamela Sawyer of Columbia Falls, Maine. She is a 2003 graduate of Narraguagus High School in Harrington and a 2007 graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience. Allison is currently attending the University of Houston in the doctorate counseling psychology program. The groom is the son of Jeroen and Cecile Verhaak of Boekelo, the Netherlands. He graduated high school in 1996 from Kottenpark College in Enschede, the Netherlands. He earned a Master of Science degree in biomedical sciences from Rodboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 2000, and a doctorate in medicine from Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 2006. Roel is an assistant professor of computational biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia and they reside in Houston.
