Images from the October 1947 Bar Harbor fire were resurrected from the archives this year with a twist. BDN visuals editor Brian Feulner and graphics editor Eric Zelz took five archived black and white photos, mostly from Bangor Daily News photographer Spike Webb, and added color. The images show the devastation, size and effect of the fire on the communities of Mount Desert Island. As a tribute to Webb, Feulner and Zelz attempted to bring back some color and life to photos that reflect Maine’s rich and at sometimes difficult past.
