2011 Bangor Daily News Original Outhouse Contest Part 2

Posted Aug. 25, 2011, at 12:42 p.m.
This outhouse was built by my StepDad and Mom and sits in the woods of Kingsbury Maine. It is a famous outhouse, having been in the Bangor Daily News, Channel 7 and Channel 5 TV and the BDN story was picked up by the associated press so it went throughout the United States. This outhouse won me a trip to New York City to be Maine's Representative in the Charmin Go Nation &quotEnjoy the Go" Contest. My parents built this outhouse to be used year round and it has come in handy during many snowmobile, snowshoeing, hunting and summer time fun trips. Thanks to Joe & Mona for building it!

This outhouse located on Hadley Pond in Township 24 off Rt 9 in Washington County is special because three female friends built it. It was built entirely from used material that we found in the area or brought from home. Even the &quotjohn" was from an old destroyed camper and could actually be flushed with water kept in a bucket. The shingles appear new but were scrounged from the wood dump in my town, apparently left over from some project. The only cost was for gasoline to run the generator for the tools.

This is a Yogi outhouse. When you come to the great north woods of Maine for retreat and sanctuary, our outhouse comes complete with Tibetan prayer flags over the hole. Let the chi flow as you leave your offering to the Gods.

Outhouse location: T 2 R13
built in 2009, the yogi outhouse replaces one that stood for 46 years.

Here is our outhouse. We have a fire pit outback of our house and my wife got tired of walking back to the house to go to the bathroom. So her father built this for us. It has two seats one for adults and one a little lower for kids. Its camo and has a bell to ring to see if anyone is in it.

If you're in need, you've come to the right place!!! You know when nature takes you, sometimes it can be a big problem and squatting behind the nearest bush usn't usually the best plan. If you're near Schoodic Lake on the Columbia barrens you just may be in luck! Behind the Merritt camp is a little bit of Downeast heaven! Yes, an old fashioned outhouse a pleasing little one hole'er with a Downeast atmosphere. There's real fish net on the wall with shells gathered from our local beaches with a velour lobster just for color. We could of used a real one, but after a few days they tend to smell and you couldn't have that in a outhouse of this caliber. Real used buoys, a dry rug on the floor with sand and even a toilet paper assistant just to make your beach side fantasy complete.

The &quotPoop Deck" is the most outstanding outhouse in all of Maine because it has all the amenities of a luxurious restroom but rests comfortably on the side of the lawn and overlooks the ocean. The decor has a natural and rustic beauty with cozy comforts like magazines, old books that have been passed down through the generations, lanterns, and curtains; for that additional assurance of privacy. The outside is painted to match the house and deck, and it exudes a certain charm that makes you feel right at home. Probably one of the greatest things that separates our outhouse from others is that it overlooks the beautiful east coast seaside. The &quotPoop Deck" is truly amazing!

Hello from WNUB and the Princess Privy on Golden Ridge. Thebackwardsofmaine.com needed a suitable radio station and due to a granddaughter soon to arrive, a proper place for our new princess to go. Nothing just thrown up haphazardly would do.
The first few shows to be broadcast from WNUB on The Nub emanated from the privy. Of course the privy couldn't be used as a privy until our Saige Paulette was big enough to Christen it. The pretty pink princess (photo provided) shows her seated in the Princess Privy for the first time. She loved the place so our worries she might be scared of it were unfounded. She's demanded to use her privy each time she's visited since.
The 3 remaining photos show Cuzin Waine Fromayne broadcasting from WNUB (note hand-carved hand hold towel and tissue, and carved duck head is over the doorway. Duck heads!); the privy with 32 foot deck and flowers; and a sample of sunsets as seen through the privy window.
Good luck to all contestants. Love, CW and the Backwards of Maine
