BANGOR, Maine — A new group is working to identify and plan for trails linkages throughout the 12-town region in the Bangor area. The newly dubbed Heart of Penobscot Trails, also referred to as “HOP Trails,” is a collaboration of regional communities working to promote easy access to and awareness of the many recreational opportunities in southern Penobscot County. The towns included in this venture are Bangor, Hermon, Hampden, Orono, Brewer, Bradley, Veazie, Eddington, Holden, Milford, Old Town and Orrington.
HOP Trails aims to help make the area a recreation destination for locals and visitors alike, and seeks to encourage the adoption of a heart-healthy lifestyle.
The group invites new members to join, and encourages participation from community members.
The next meeting of the group will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Fields Pond Audubon Center, 216 Fields Pond Road, in Holden. Leading up to the meeting, there will be localized work groups meeting in the participating towns to identify current or potential trail linkages on local maps.
