There is a new group emerging in southern Penobscot working to identify and plan for trails linkages throughout the 12 town region. The newly dubbed “Heart of Penobscot Trails”, also referred to as “HOP Trails”, is a collaboration of regional communities working to promote easy access to, and awareness of, the many recreational opportunities in southern Penobscot County. The towns included in this venture include; Bangor, Hermon, Hampden, Orono, Brewer, Bradley, Veazie, Eddington, Holden, Milford, Old Town and Orrington. HOP Trails aims to help make the area a recreation destination for locals and visitors alike, and seeks to encourage the adoption of a heart-healthy lifestyle!
As this group takes shape and makes plans, they are inviting new members to the group, and encouraging participation from community members. The next full group meeting will take place at 4:00pm on October 24th at the Fields Pond Audubon Center (216 Fields Pond Road, Holden). Leading up to this meeting, there are localized work groups coming together in the participating towns to identify any current or potential trail linkages on local maps. To link up with your local group, contact Alexia Corbett at 992.4462 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Your new favorite trail is just a HOP away!
