Weekend Navigator Course

The Mount Desert Island flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary once again will be offering the course, “Weekend Navigator”, starting on Tuesday, January 14th at Mount Desert Island High School.

“Weekend Navigator” is designed as a supplement to an introductory boating course such as the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s “Boating Skills and Seamanship” or “About Boating Safety”. It deals exclusively with navigation and does not include other aspect of boat handling.

“Weekend Navigator” students will learn the three basic steps of navigation: 1) pre-voyage planning, 2) navigation underway, and 3) confirming your plan through independent means. They will learn to take these steps using both conventional paper charts and electronic instrumentation. Instrumentation will include GPS, radar, depth finders, radio, electronic compasses and autopilot.

Weekend Navigator will start on Tuesday, January 14th at 7:00 P.M. in room 113 at MDI High School. The course costs $50.00, including text and plotting supplies.

For pre-registration information call: Lance Funderburk at 276-3301.
