ORLAND, Maine — Lace up your running shoes for the annual Wildlands Trail Run, at noon Sunday, Oct. 28. The seven-mile run in the Great Pond Mountain Wildlands will take in gravel roads and some single-track with plenty of hills. Expect roots, rocks, mud and moose. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m.
Enter the Route One gate near the Route 176 intersection and drive in on Valley Road 2.5 miles to Hothole Brook parking area.
Advance registration is $10, $15 on race day. Bring a friend and your entry is $5. Proceeds will benefit Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust.
Volunteers are needed to help with the race.
Following the race, Theresa Withee will explain and demonstrate the principles of barefoot running. Withee, of Camden, began barefoot running in 2008 and has completed the Boston Marathon and the MDI Marathon since that time. She also completed the Pineland Farms 15-mile run in what are called “minimalist shoes.”
