Sept. 1–Oct. 10, J. Thomas R. Higgins: Paint and Perception
A retrospective exhibition of the artistry of J. Thomas R. Higgins opens the semester at the Emery Community Arts Center Flex-Space Gallery. The opening reception will take place 3-5 p.m., on Sept. 8. The reception and exhibit are sponsored by ECAC and are free and open-to-the-public. The ECAC Flex Space Gallery is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Friday and 12-6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
Sept. 12, 7:30 p.m., The Changing Nature of the Maine Woods
Drew Barton, author and UMF professor of biology, will give a presentation of excerpts and highlights from his recently released book that synthesizes what we know about Maine forests—past, present and future. The event sponsored by the UMF Division of Natural Sciences and Devaney, Doak & Garrett is free and open-to-the-public in the ECAC Performance Space.
Sept. 19, 7 p.m., Susan Stein Presents a One-Woman Show—The Etty Play
This one-woman theatrical play is based on the diaries and letters of Etty Hillesum, a young Jewish woman about to be deported out of Holland in 1943.
This performance sponsored by UMF and the ECAC, is open-to-the-public with donations suggested and will be held in the ECAC Performance Space.
Sept. 27, 7 p.m., “The Logic of Yoo”
A dramatization of Michael Broek’s long poem “The Logic of Yoo” that was constituted in Fall 2011 issue of “Beloit Poetry Journal.”
Doors open 30 minutes before all performances.
