MILLINOCKET, Maine — The town of Millinocket was recognized as an official Appalachian Trail Community during a ceremony held Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The designation ceremony was held by Appalachian Trail Conservancy and Maine Appalachian Trail Club.
An Appalachian Trail Community takes extra steps to promote and protect the Appalachian Trail, according to a press release from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Such communities engage community residents, trail visitors and stewards; thank communities for decasdes of service to hikers; catalyze sustainable economic development; aid local municipalities and regional areas with conservation planning; and raise local awareness of the trail as a community resource and asset.
