Time Warner Cable Joins Maine Development Foundation Education Initiative

AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine Development Foundation announced today that Time Warner Cable has joined a growing network of employers in Maine who have committed to support their employees’ education, training and development. The commitment was made through an MDF program, the Maine Employers’ Initiative, which is a growing network of 130 education-committed employers. The network provides Maine’s public and private employers with technical assistance, resources, best practices, and statewide recognition for taking steps to promote educational and career advancement opportunities for their workforce.

“Committed employers like Time Warner Cable can make all the difference in encouraging busy working adults to take the next step in their education and development,” said Maggie Drummond, program director for the Employers’ Initiative at MDF. “Increasing the skills and knowledge in the incumbent workforce is good for all Maine businesses and an enormous growth opportunity for our state.”

Time Warner Cable has been a Maine cable provider for more than 30 years and is the Pine Tree State’s largest provider of video, high-speed data and voice services to residential and commercial customers. The company has 1,000 employees in Maine who will be impacted by the company’s educational commitment.

“We’re proud to support our employees’ development through the Maine Employers’ Initiative,” said Paul S. Schonewolf, area vice president for operations for Time Warner Cable of New England. “Our business is successful because of our employee teams, and we’re committed to supporting their growth and career aspirations through tuition reimbursement, extensive job training and partnerships with local colleges and universities.”

The Maine Employers’ Initiative started in 2007, and now includes employers of all sizes and sectors around the state of Maine. To join, employers complete a needs assessment survey to gauge their current support for education and identify ways that they can do more. The business then identifies one more step they can take, and fills out a commitment letter to outline the plan.
