Tim Sample comes to Castine as part of Storytelling by the Sea festival

CASTINE, Maine — Maine humorist and renowned storyteller Tim Sample is coming to Castine to kick off the Storytelling by the Sea festival at 1 p.m. on Aug. 16, as are a host of other storytellers including John MacDonald, Jennifer Armstrong, Frank Gotwals, Oscar Mokeme and many more.

There will be something for everyone, including ASL interpreters for the hearing impaired, and a workshop on how to tell a great tale. The festival runs Aug. 16-18. Tickets are $10 for adults per day or $18 for a weekend pass. Kids under 12 can attend for $5 per day or $8 for a weekend pass.

Advance tickets may be purchased from the Wilson Museum and the Witherle Memorial Library in Castine. In addition to great storytelling there will be food, vendors and even a pie auction. The culmination of a year-long storytelling extravaganza, Storytelling by the Sea festival is sponsored by the Castine Arts Association, Maine Maritime Academy, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Castine, Wilson Museum, Witherle Memorial Library and Friends of Witherle Memorial Library. American Sign Language interpreters supported by a grant from the Sharon St. Cyr Fund, Inc.
