MACHIAS, Maine —The 2013 Blueberry quilt has made its debut and is now on display at the Machias branch of Machias Savings Bank. Raffle tickets are $2 each, and may be purchased at the bank during regular hours, or at the Centre St. Congregational Church in Machias, Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 until 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tickets are also available online at www.machiasblueberry.com. The winning ticket for this beautiful queen sized quilt will be drawn at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, at the Centre St. Congregational Church. You do not need to be present to win.
Each year, the ladies of the Centre St. Congregational Church work together to embroider, hand piece, and quilt a work of art for the Blueberry Festival. This year’s quilt in shades of blue and red is an original pattern by Karen Varian, with an embroidery design by Christine Guy. Many hands helped make this 90” x 114” quilt including embroiderers Toni Bizie, Janet Dowling, Betty Duzen, Christine Guy, Jane Hinson, Barbara Hope, Joyce Howland, Ellen Huggins, Kate Jans, Betty Kelly, Nancy Look, Eileen McKinnon, Connie Molinski, Heidi Nelson, Valerie Preston, Ernie Reisman, Lila Schenks, Gynell Schoppee, Mildred Sullivan, and Pauline Wood. Hand sewing was done by Maria Smith, Ruth Thurston, and Karen Varian, and the machine quilting was completed by Sarah Davis of Downeast Quilting in Jonesport. Previous year’s quilts will be on display in the Church Sanctuary on Saturday, August 17, from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Buy your tickets now to have a chance to own a beautiful, unique piece of Downeast Maine!
