BREWER, Maine — Solidarity Harvest, a project sponsored by Food AND Medicine and the Eastern and Western Maine Labor Councils, is an effort to support and show solidarity to families facing lay-offs and other hardships at Thanksgiving. They plan to deliver meals to 1,000 families across the state.
Solidarity Harvest has received a matching grant of $5000 from the McTeague Higbee law firm of Topsham, to help reach the $30,000 fundraising goal.
Union locals across the state have committed over $10,000 and Manna Industries of Bangor has promised 1,000 turkeys the weekend before Thanksgiving. Bangor Savings Bank, has also agreed to sponsor the project in the amount of $1,000.
Matching funds must be met before Thursday, Nov. 15, to ensure all the recipients receive their meals. Law firms, businesses and organizations who want to contribute to the McTeague/Higbee match can contact Erin Sweeney at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 207-989-5860.
