Saco & Biddeford Savings encourages public to attend ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Thanks to the generosity of Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution (SBSI), the last three performances of South Portland High School’s Thoroughly Modern Millie, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, will be attended by a large group.

The high school students have struggled to get anyone to attend their musical production, as the only performance license the school was able to obtain restricted all advertising. There have been no banners on street corners or advertisements in the local paper. As a result, ticket sales have been low and the students have not been playing to the packed houses to which they are accustomed.

“We really want the community to attend one of the final performances of this show, either this Friday at 7:30 p.m., or this Saturday at 2 or 7:30 p.m.,” said Don Lauzier, SBSI’ director of community relations, in a press release. “Tickets should be available at the door, or better yet, buy them online in advance.”

“We have put all of the information, including dates and times on the electronic sign in front of our South Portland branch, located on Broadway,” said Kevin Savage, president of SBSI. “We even went so far as to purchase a sizeable block of tickets to the show, which we will distribute to local senior citizens and bank customers.”

The final three performances of Thoroughly Modern Millie take place at South Portland High School’s auditorium this Friday at 7:30 pm and on Saturday at both 2 and 7:30 pm. Tickets and full details are available online at

“I know first-hand how hard the students work to put on a musical, especially one of this caliber. I really do hope that the community turns out in numbers to support the students; they are sure to enjoy a great production,” concluded Lauzier.
