OGUNQUIT, Maine — Run for the Fallen Maine will hold its annual run to honor fallen heroes at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. The event will begin at Ogunquit Square and end at Ocean Gateway Complex in Portland. It a celebration of the lives of the 79 men and two women with Maine ties who have died since Sept. 11, 2001.
Runners will begin the 65-kilometer run from the square led by state police along a designated route lined with posters representing each Fallen Hero in the form of a photo, their home town and a brief biography. Many of the family members and military representatives will stand at these markers to encourage the runners along the route.
Participants may run or walk one, many or all of the kilometers from Ogunquit to Portland.
After the run, the USMC Silent Drill Platoon will perform. Family members will be treated to a traditional Maine lobster bake.
