BANGOR, Maine – Current military, veterans and their families attending a resource fair in Bangor will be able to combine learning about their benefits with entertainment from a country star known for his support of men and women in uniform.
The Maine Military & Community Network, an organization dedicated to outreach to current and former service members, is sponsoring the fair from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, in a tent near the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion.
The resource fair will precede the appearance of country star Toby Keith as part of the Waterfront Concerts series.
“You’d be surprised at how many of our former service men and women are unaware of the help that is available to them,” said Nathaniel Grace, community liaison with Maine National Guard, in a press statement. “Our goal is to get service members connected with the people who can help them find jobs, get healthcare and other benefits that are owed to them.”
The Maine Military & Community Network’s Bangor chapter chose Toby Keith’s show because the country artist has been a strong supporter of active and veteran military personnel. In turn, Keith has a large following of veterans.
“Toby really gets it. He frequently supports military and veteran families, not only through his music, but also through his work in the communities he visits,” said Grace, in the statement.
The resource fair was made possible by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, which is a program of the Department of Defense, and with the cooperation and support of the Waterfront Concerts organization.
About 20 organizations will be on hand to help current military, veterans and their families with everything from student financial aid, to health care, to help finding a job. The fair is a drop-in event where current military, veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.
