PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland City Council last night unanimously endorsed a “Yes” vote on Question 1, which would allow same-sex couples to receive a marriage license while also protecting religious freedom.
The resolution, which was introduced by City Councilor Nick Mavodones reads, in part, “The city of Portland embraces equality and fair treatment for all residents including the freedom to marry for loving, committed couples.”
In addition, the resolution recognizes that in addition to allowing same-sex couples to receive a marriage license, Question 1 also protects religious freedom.
Mainers United for Marriage is the coalition to win marriage for all Maine families. A “Yes” vote in November will allow marriage licenses for all loving, committed same-sex couples in Maine while also protecting religious freedom.
