Palermo Library Receives Grant

The Palermo Library Guild just received a $2,000 grant to install Microsoft Word on the public computers and to purchase a new staff computer with updated software. This grant is made from the Saxifrage Opportunity Grants Fund of the Maine Community Foundation at the recommendation of the Waldo County Committee advisors.

“This grant will not only help the patrons with the Microsoft Word Software but the staff will be thrilled to have a new replacement for the twelve-year-old staff computer,” said Betty Holzer, Acting President. “Many patrons come in with a word document on a thumb drive only to find out that it’s not compatible. Microsoft Word will be a great addition.”

Summer Library Programming includes creating Fairy Container Gardens, “Fizz, Boom, Bang,” a nationwide reading program, Genealogy and Ancestry, a five-week program, and a monthly Legos Club meeting.

The Palermo Library Guild, popularly known as the Palermo Community Library, offers a wide selection of books, large print books, audio books, videos, DVDs, WiFi, computers, Ancestry.com, a community room, and assistance in completing online Maine forms. All programs are open to the Palermo community and the surrounding communities. There is also an ongoing book sale.

The Palermo Community Library is an all volunteer library. If interested in volunteering, call 207-993-6088 or email palermo@palermo.lib.me.us.

With offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation works with donors and other partners to improve the quality of life for all Maine people. To learn more about the Foundation, visit www.mainecf.org.
