ORONO, Maine — The Orono Arts Cafe is back for another season of jazz, folk, pop, classical, and world music, humorous and dramatic spoken pieces, and visual arts to begin Friday, Sept. 14, at the Keith Anderson Community House on Bennoch Road.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. so that adults or students wishing to perform may sign up for open mic and be
ready for the show to begin at 7 p.m.
You need not be a resident of Orono to participate. Performers are reminded that, whatever genre of music or spoken piece they choose to perform, they should plan programs that are appropriate for a family audience and that last no more than 10 minutes in length.
Because the Cafe’s season opener takes place during National Arts in Education Week, the evening will feature a special exhibit of works created by Advanced Placement Studio Art students from Orono High School.
The Orono Arts Cafe is held on the second Friday of every month during the academic year. It is sponsored by the Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts, an organization of parent and community volunteers working to support arts education in our schools. Money raised through ticket, snack, and beverage sales at the Cafe will be used to help fund camp and college scholarships for
students in the Orono schools. The first of those scholarships will be awarded this year.
