NEWPORT, Maine — Nokomis Regional High Principal Mary Nadeau has announced that the Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2014 will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, in the Nokomis gymnasium.
The guest speaker for graduation will be Rep. Kenneth Fredette, who is the Minority Leader in the Maine House of Representatives. Minority Leader Fredette is a member of the Maine Air National Guard and has served for 12 years as a Judge Advocate General. He operates a solo law practice in Newport and has taught at Eastern and Southern Maine Community Colleges. Fredette and his wife, Cyndi, live in Newport and have two children, Morgan and Colby.
Principal Nadeau is also pleased to announce the top two students in the Class of 2014. Ranked first in her class, Sara Packard has been named Valedictorian and also serves as the Class Historian. Sara plans on attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle majoring in Athletic Training. Sara is the daughter of Vicki and David Packard of St. Albans, Maine. Salutatorian, ranked second in the class is Katelyn Manzo who also serves as the Class Vice President. Katie plans on attending the University of Maine where she will be majoring in Computer Science Engineering. Katie is the daughter of Catherine and Robert Manzo, Jr. of Etna, Maine.
Scholarships and other awards will be presented to graduating seniors at Class Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5. Other student speakers during Graduation week include the other Senior Class Officers: President, Justin DeNicola, son of Melanie and Richard DeNicola of Dixmont, Secretary, Shannon Campbell, daughter of Kelly Campbell and Anthony Campbell of Hartland, and Treasurer, Logan Melanson, daughter of Billie and David Melanson of Carmel. Admittance to Graduation is by ticket only and admittance to Class Night is first-come, first-serve.
