Nokomis alumni to play trumpet with school jazz ensemble on Nov. 15

NEWPORT, Maine — Celebrated trumpet professor and performer Trent Austin will perform with the school’s jazz ensemble at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Nokomis Regional High.

Austin is a Nokomis alumni and a former professor at the University of Southern Maine. He is serving at Nokomis as Artist-in-Residence this year. He has performed with Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Joe Williams, Clark Terry, Jack Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider, Peter Erskine, Arturo Sandoval, Hal Galper, Dick Oatts, Marvin Stamm, Red Holloway, Jesse Davis, Dick Johnson, Kenny Werner and Bob Wilber. For 11 years, he was a featured trumpet soloist with the Artie Shaw Orchestra. He is a first-call performer in the Boston Metro and southern New England areas.

Tickets are $5, $4 students, $13 family, available at the door. The concert is a fundraiser for the RSU 19 Music Boosters to help keep musical opportunities available at the school.
