ELLSWORTH, Maine — On Sunday, October 6 at 4 p.m at the Grand in Ellsworth, Noel Paul Stookey, David Mallet, Tim Sample, and the trio of Bill Schubeck, Heidi Daub, and Phil Norris will take to the stage in celebration of Community Radio Station WERU-FM’s 25th Anniversary Year.
“It’s more than a performance,” observes Noel Paul Stookey (one of the foundational supporters of the station in the early 80’s), “It’s also a chance to celebrate with and offer gratitude to a group of people who’ve provided an important musical and informational base for us these past 25 years.” Commenting on the diversity of programming the station offers, Noel continues “Like the poster says, WERU is a ‘voice of many voices’…the eclectic musical statements, which oftentimes feature Maine artists are balanced by the spoken word programs that encourage us to share concerns with one another – speaking to important national, state and local issues. It’s what you might call our electronic ‘neighborhood’.”
Tim Sample, the nationally known Maine Humorist who, along with Stookey, was present when WERU signed on the air in May of 1988 says “…it’s shaping up to be a great show!” In addition to Sample’s humor and the impressive musical lineup including David Mallett and Schubeck-Daub-Norris trio, the concert will also provide an opportunity to put faces to names for WERU listeners as each performer will be introduced by a present or former WERU volunteer programmer, and many other WERU volunteers will be present in the audience.
More information about the family friendly concert is available at the WERU web site at www.weru.org. Tickets for the celebratory concert are available online at www.grandonline.org or through the Grand box office at 207 667-9500.
