BLUE HILL, Maine – New Surry Theatre continues its celebration of its 40th Anniversary Season with Steel Magnolias, a heartwarming and humorous story about the power of friendship between six southern women.
NST previously performed Steel Magnolias in 1990, and like every other production in its 40th Anniversary Season, memorabilia from the past performance, including a short film, will be on display at each show. Steel Magnolias is directed by Dindy Royster, who performed as one of the Magnolias in 1990, and features Cherie Magnello as Clairee, Cindy Robbins as Ouiser, Johannah Blackman as Shelby, Leanne Nickon as M’Lynn, Nina Poole as Annelle and Shelly Curtain as Truvy.
“It has been such a joy to direct this show and this talented group of women,” shared Ms. Royster. “Engaging with this play from the point of view of a director after previously performing as Clairee deepened my appreciation for the nuances of the story.
It is a beautiful tale and we are excited to include it in our 40th Anniversary Season.” In celebration of the 40th, the first 110 ticketholders for opening night will also receive a ticket to an opening night pre-show reception at Fairwinds Florist at 6:30PM with food, drinks and a Black Dinah cake.
Performances are June 8-9, 15-16 & 22-23 at 7PM, June 10 at 3PM and a special benefit performance for the Peninsula Ambulance Corps June 14 at 7PM. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors and $25 for the benefit. Call 200-4720 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your tickets today. www.newsurrytheatre.org
