ORONO, Maine — New fun and exciting “Learn To Skate” Program will be starting at the University of Maine, Alfond Ice Arena in Orono. Classes will be offered for all skaters ages 4 through Adult for the recreational skater, hockey player or figure skater. Classes will begin on Saturday, Sept. 28 from noon to 1:30 pm. Registration for classes begins now.
Snowplow Sam is a three-level introductory program that consists of preliminary skills for children ages 4-6 or for the skater not quite ready for the “Basic Eight” program. The Basic Skills program consists of 8 levels (“Basic Eight”), and includes the fundamentals of skating for the sports of Hockey, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, and Recreational Skating. “Introduction to Freestyle” classes teaches elements of Figure Skating, such as jumps, spins, footwork and edge drills. Individual booster lessons will also be available with class enrollment at an additional fee.
It is highly recommended that skaters register in advance for the program. Skaters should arrive at least a half hour early, especially on the first day of the session on September 28th.
