New – Eat Well Volunteer Program

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is seeking volunteers for its new Eat Well Volunteer Program. You will be trained to teach clients of food pantries and community meal sites about nutrition, food preparation, and food safety using fresh garden produce. The hands-on volunteer training consists of seven weekly sessions at the Hancock County Extension Office, plus 5 hours of online training. The training will be held on Tuesday afternoons from May 6th through June 24th. After completing the 30 hours of training, you will provide 30 hours of volunteer service conducting lessons at a local food pantry or community meal site. UMaine Extension staff has created the educational lessons and materials that you will use at the community sites. Your volunteer community outreach will occur from July through October, with fresh produce donated through Maine Harvest for Hunger program.
