AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine Department of Labor offers speakers who can provide informational talks or training for businesses or organizations. The purpose is to help citizens better understand Maine’s economy, labor laws, workplace safety, workforce development systems and services for businesses and employees.
“Business owners and workers have questions about the many facets of employment that the Department of Labor oversees,” said Gov. Paul R. LePage, in a press release. “The department’s staff can answer these questions in an informal environment, making it easier to understand and comply with the law. Being accessible helps business owners get answers that prevent costly mistakes that can hurt both employees and businesses.”

“It is so important for our staff to go out in the field and talk face-to-face with Maine citizens,” explained Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette, in a prepared statement. “Many of our best ideas about improving our services and clarifying our laws come from these conversations with businesses and workers. Please don’t hesitate to contact us when you are planning for meetings and conferences this year. The Labor Department is here to help you.”
The department offers a diverse group of experts who are prepared to speak on a wide range of topics relating to employment law compliance, independent contractor and employee definitions, worker health and safety, labor market information, workforce development and job training programs, employment of people with disabilities, the unemployment insurance system and other issues falling within the department’s jurisdiction.
Staff are also available to teach specific seminars at conferences and workshops on topics of concern to an association or industry group.
