MATTAWAMKEAG, Maine — Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park and Campground will be opening for its 38th season on May 17, for a cleanup weekend. Come and help clean up the campground and camp for free! The campground officially opens on May 24th. The campground will be open until October.
The campground will be managed this year by Brian King, who took over as park manager in 2011 after having camped there for several years.
The Wilderness Park Advisory Board will sponsor the 17th annual Wilderness Park Barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the pavilion behind the recreation hall. This facility is also available to be rented by groups or individuals for special events. It is 40 feet wide and 70 feet long, plenty of room for a reunion, reception, retreat or other event. A commercial grade gas grill can be rented as well.
Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park and Campground is a modern campground in a wilderness setting. It offers RV sites, tent sites and Adirondack shelters. It is located along the beautiful Mattawamkeag River in north central Maine about 60 miles northeast of Bangor.
