BATH, Maine — The Maine Maritime Museum in will feature the artwork of Sonja Weber Gilkey from Sept. 7 to Oct. 21, at the musuem, 243 Washington St. The exhibit, “Sea Lives,” explores the intertwined nature of the ocean inspired Gilkey’s sculptural artwork. An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.
Gilkey, born in The Netherlands, derives most of her inspiration and materials from the sea.
The exhibit will feature her “Fishermen’s Crosses” and large scale works including “Les Ames En Route,” which received a special prize from the American Folk Art Museum in New York City.
