Literacy Volunteers looking for help

BANGOR, Maine —  For about 25 percent of our population, reading proficiently is difficult and sometimes impossible.

Teaching an adult to read or speak English does not require an education degree or fluency in another language. It does require patience, an interest in learning about others, and desire to transform an adult’s life through literacy, and Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is looking for volunteers willing to help.

The Fall Tutor Training schedule is now available with classes 6-9 p.m. beginning Tuesday,  Oct. 9 and  for six consecutive Tuesdays, at the United Technologies Center, 200 Hogan Road.

For a complete list of training dates and times,  visit www.lvbangor.org and look under “What’s Happening”  The course fee is $35, scholarship are available.

For more information or to register, call Literacy Volunteers of Bangor at 207-947-8451 or send an e-mail of interest to kellipittman@lvbangor.org.
