The Blue Hill Public Library’s monthly series, Art Adventures begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, with How Jazz Works: From Song to Improv. Featuring jazz bass player Don Carmichael of Deer Isle and jazz pianist Frank Fredenburgh of Steuben, the lively program will show how well-known songs can be transformed into jazz by altering the time, tempo, and chords to establish new melodies. They’ll also explain the role their instruments play in creating jazz and its special musical feeling and “swing.”
This monthly series will continue on the fourth Thursday of each month through September, spotlighting an array of visual and performing arts from photography and western swing to portraiture and the Japanese art of Haiga. For more information, contact the library, 374-5515.
