ROCKPORT, Maine — Pen Bay Healthcare is pleased to announce that it has received $50,000 of funding for the Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 program’s second year in Knox County. Let’s Go! Knox County is housed at Pen Bay Healthcare’s Picker Family Resource Center.
Representatives from the Let’s Go! home office in Portland presented Linda Zeigler and Wendelanne Augunas, co-directors of the Picker Family Resource Center and Adrienne Gallant, Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 coordinator, Knox County, with their second Let’s Go! check. Joining the Picker Center staff for the check presentation were Wade Johnson, CEO, Pen Bay Healthcare and Sue Low, clinical manager, Pen Bay Employee Health Services.
Since its inception, Let’s Go! Knox County has:
• Successfully assisted schools, after school programs and childcare sites to apply for mini-grants for healthy eating and active living projects
• Provided technical assistance and trainings.
• Hosted Healthy Kids Day and a countywide childcare provider training in collaboration with the Penobscot Bay YMCA.
• Hosted a clinical conference for healthcare professionals on motivational interviewing, presented by Dr. Tory Rogers, director of Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 in collaboration with Pen Bay Healthcare’s Zing! Program.
There are now 38 registered Let’s Go! sites throughout Knox County including childcares, schools, after school programs and healthcare sites.
Let’s Go! is a nationally recognized childhood obesity prevention program that focuses on increasing physical activity and healthy eating for children birth to 18 through policy and environmental change.
