Gifford’s Ice Cream expands beyond New England roots

SKOWHEGAN, Maine – – Gifford’s Ice Cream is growing its retail and restaurant availability beyond New England, by adding Chicago, Michigan and Las Vegas to the locations where its award-winning ice cream is sold.

Gifford’s Ice Cream has reached a deal with Michigan-based Plum Markets (www.plummarket.com) to sell its popular retail quarts in the grocery retailer’s locations in Ann Arbor, Bloomfield and West Bloomfield, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois. The four-store upscale grocery chain focuses on “natural, organic, local and specialty items” and is a natural fit for Gifford’s.

Gifford’s is currently found in grocery stores throughout New England, the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area, Greater Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. Existing outlets include Hannaford, Shaw’s, Whole Foods, King Kullen and Roche Brothers.

Expanding with a Growing Restaurant Group

Gifford’s is now on the menu in Las Vegas. Carmine’s (www.carminesnyc.com), a New York-based Italian restaurant group, has chosen Gifford’s to be the exclusive ice cream of its newest location in the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace.

Carmine’s is the Maine-based ice cream maker’s first customer West of the Mississippi River, and opens the door for additional foodservice and new retail accounts on the West Coast.

Carmine’s opened its Las Vegas location this summer, and according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the 750-seat location is one of the largest restaurants in the city.

Carmine’s opened its first location in New York City in 1990, followed by additional locations in New York, New Jersey and the Bahamas.

“These new locations are great opportunities for Gifford’s,” said Lindsay Gifford-Skilling, general manager of Gifford’s Ice Cream. “We look forward to working with Plum Markets and Carmine’s to introduce our ice cream to a new audience.”
