BELFAST, Maine — The Friends of the Belfast Free Library will hold its annual book sale beginning 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 21-22; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 23. On Wednesday current Friends members may purchase books at a 10 percent discount.
Hardcover and quality paperback books will sell for $1 and trade paperbacks will sell for 50 cents. Audio books, CDs and DVDs also will be available at the sale.
Select books, priced accordingly, will be featured in the lobby.
Founded in 1992, the Friends membership assists the library in maintaining its services, and encourages community support of the library through contributions of books, money and volunteer time. New members are always welcome. A single membership is $15, a family membership is $20.
The primary fund raising efforts of the Friends are an annual membership drive, the book sale in June and the Friends book sale cart located across from the circulation desk in the library. In addition, the group sponsors seasonal dessert card parties and a yearly bottle drive at the Belfast Transfer. Funds raised go toward the purchase of new books, program materials, multimedia resources and equipment. During the 2011-2012 year, the Friends have supported the library’s 125th Anniversary Celebration, contributed to the Chess Club, purchased chairs for the children’s room and continues to support the purchase of new DVDs to the library’s collection.
Those who wish to donate books for the sale may call the library at 207-338-3884, ext. 10, to learn what items are acceptable for the sale.
