Friends of Blue Hill Library Film: The Rose

The Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library Film Series continues on Thursday April 11th at 7:00 PM with The Rose (1979), starring Bette Midler, Alan Bates, Frederic Forrest, Harry Dean Stanton, Barry Primus, and David Keith.

Loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin, the film tells the story of a self-destructive 1960s rock star who struggles to cope with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of her ruthless business manager. It was Bette Midler’s screen debut, and she was nominated for an academy award, along with three other nominations for the film.

All films are shown free of charge on the Library’s “pretty big” screen in the Howard Room. For more information, call the Library (374-5515) or Michael Donahue, 374-5248 or Donahue.mg@gmail.com.
