Friends group sponsors next in series of films at Blue Hill Library

BLUE HILL, Maine — The Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library Film Series will continue at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, with “On the Waterfront,” a 1954 film starring Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Lee Cobb, Rod Steiger and Eva Marie Saint, and directed by Elia Kazan.

The film is about violence, corruption, and mob connections in the longshoremen’s union. It was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning series of news articles written about widespread crime and corruption on the Manhattan and Brooklyn waterfronts. The soundtrack score was composed by Leonard Bernstein. The film received 8 academy awards, including best picture, best actor and best director.

The film will be shown free of charge on the library’s screen in the Howard Room.
