The Penobscot Narrows Observatory looms above a section of Fort Knox in Prospect, Maine.
PROSPECT, Maine — The Friends of Fort Knox announced that it would keep the state historic site open on weekends through the Thanksgiving weekend. In the past, Fort Knox has been locked up from Oct. 31 through May 1, but visitors were able to roam the grounds outside the Fort.
Due to the deconstruction of the Waldo-Hancock Bridge, the Penobscot Narrows Observatory will be closed in November, for safety reasons.
The fort will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend, and regular State admission fees will apply.
Should snow arrive and cause unsafe conditions the fort will not be open to the public. For information, go to fortknox.maineguide.com or call 207-469-6553.
