Firemen to mark National Fire Prevention Week

WALDOBORO, Maine — To mark National Fire Prevention Week, the Waldoboro Fire Department has planned a week  of events. Department firefighters will be visit local schools and day care centers throughout the week.

The Waldoboro Firemen’s Association will host its annual open house 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12,  at the fire station, 1600 Atlantic Highway. The event will feature games for children, fire truck rides and tours of the fire station. Sparky the Fire Dog and Smokey the Bear will be on hand to greet visitors.

During the open house, Mrs. Jean Lawrence will display a photographic history of the Waldoboro Fire Department, including news articles of fires in town throughout the years. She is compiling a book on the Waldoboro Fire Department, which will be available next year to mark the fire department’s 175th anniversary.

Also that evening, the 1977 International Engine 4 and 1983 Chevrolet Rescue One will on display. Both need to be replaced and residents will find a town referendum vote on the issue in November. Fire department officers will be on hand to answer questions about the referendum.
