(For Immediate Fiber Materials Inc. (FMI), a Biddeford Maine company that develops and manufactures high temperature materials and composites for defense, industrial, commercial, and aerospace applications, has been selected as a finalist in the 2017 New England Innovation Awards sponsored by the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE). FMI’s entry for its 3D Polymer Matrix Composite is one of 20 selected from 194 innovative organizations to compete in the final phase of this competition.
FMI’s 3D Polymer Matrix Composite (PMC) is a lightweight, high strength, fiber reinforced composite capable of withstanding a wide range of challenging thermal and environmental conditions. FMI’s solution uses a proprietary 3D weaving technique that improves material performance through the use of uncrimped fibers and placed fiber reinforcements in three or more directions, allowing fiber volumes to be varied for specific applications. Use in high end automotive, spacecraft, and medical devices is anticipated for this innovative product.
