Every 15 Minutes – Drinking/Distracted Driving Awareness Program

LINCOLN, Maine — The Lincoln Police and Fire departments will be participating in a mock traffic accident at 11:30 a.m. April 4-5, as part of the “Every 15 Minutes” program being held at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln.

In addition, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Maine State Warden Service, Maine Forest Service, Penobscot Valley Hospital, and Clay’s Funeral Home plan to participate. As this is a very realistic demonstration by public safety professionals, parents and the public are being notified that there will be a lot of emergency vehicle traffic near and around Mattanawcook Academy and Ella Burr School between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4.

Vehicles will be staging on Ella Burr Drive and responding with emergency lights and sirens to Mattanawcook Academy. We want parents and the general public informed of the scheduled activities to prevent any misunderstanding or confusion. This is a mock crash scene as part of the nationally recognized “Every 15 Minutes” program that demonstrates to students the risks associated with drunk driving and texting.

A mock funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, in the Mattanawcook Academy gymnasium. The public is invited and encouraged to attend both of these very real life-like “mock” events.

Anyone with questions or that would like more information may contact Fire Chief Phil Dawson or Police Chief Bill Lawrence at the Lincoln Public Safety building, 794-8455 or Kelli Bard at Mattanawcook Academy, 794-6711.
