Chamber to host Mini Tourism Conference at Business Breakfast on June 5

ROCKPORT, Maine — The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce will host an expanded Business Breakfast at the Samoset Resort on Wednesday, June 5.  Chamber Breakfasts are Sponsored by Allen Insurance and Financial and are designed to cover trends and issues affecting our local business community.  Each event features a speaker of public/business interest and well as networking during breakfast.  Wednesday’s topic is “Tourism in the Midcoast:  Planning for a Successful Season.”

We’ll be talking to Carolann Ouellette, Director of the Maine Office of Tourism about their efforts to bring new visitors to Maine; to Amy Powers of Cruise Maine about attracting cruise ships to the midcoast; to Margaret Hoffman of the Maine Office of Tourism about creating innovative packages and specials; about regional events and how they can fit into your business plan; about hiring and retaining seasonal help; about customer service training for your staff (it’s free, fun, and easy).

Carolann Ouellette, Director of the Maine Office of Tourism, provides the strategic direction and planning for the major elements of the Tourism and Film Office’s integrated marketing programs, including Advertising, Media Relations, International Promotions, Research, and Product Development. Her presentation will include an overview of the creative from the current campaign, trends in tourism and research relevant to the Pen Bay Region.

Amy Powers is the founding Director of the CruiseMaineUSA Coalition. In her capacity she works with the Maine Port Authority to represent the cruise ship marketing, travel industry outreach, public relations and community relations efforts of 12 Maine ports, 2 small Canadian ports, and several Associate Members.

Margaret Hoffman, Development Project Officer of the Maine Office of Tourism, will guide local businesses in learning to create innovative packages and specials that draw new customers and keep the existing ones coming back. Worry less about getting your piece of the pie and concentrate on making the pie bigger by working collaboratively with other businesses in new and innovative ways.  In this workshop you’ll learn how to increase your revenue and profits by developing a menu of experiences that will differentiate your business.

Whether you are looking to strengthen or expand an existing business or an entrepreneur looking to start a new endeavor, local businesses are encouraged to join the Chamber for this informative event.

Breakfast and networking begins at 7:30am, and our panel discussion begins promptly at 8:00am.  Cost to attend is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.  For more information, visit
