Spend a dramatic, theatrical summer immersed in a world of entertainment barely contained by the Blue Hill Town Hall Theater. For the first time ever, Blue Hill’s New Surry Theatre (NST), will be presenting an entire summer of theatrical magic in repertory, (four productions in three months!), including the reprise of a play written and set in Maine by Brooklin, Maine’s own Jon Ellsworth (Stream Crossings, back by popular demand after a sold-our premiere in February), productions of both a multiple Tony award-winning Broadway musical, The Music Man, and a Pulitzer-prize winning play, Proof…and it all starts with a production of Dale Wasserman’s award-winning stage adaptation of the novel by Ken Kesey, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, opening June 7th at 7:00pm!
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest follows Randle McMurphy, a boisterous, charming, life-affirming rogue who contrives to serve a short sentence in a mental institution rather than in jail. Once there, he clashes with the head nurse, and manages to accomplish what the medical profession had failed to do, leading many of the other patients out of introversion. McMurphy stages numerous revolts against the head nurse, and his defiance, which starts as sport, quickly develops into a grim power struggle with the institution.
Called “one of the finest, most meaningful and moving plays of recent times” buy WPIX TV and “scarifying and powerful” by the NY Times, Cuckoo’s Nest is not to be missed. Veteran NST actor Michael Reichgott, (from Proof, Oliver!, Man of La Mancha and Sylvia, to name just a few), makes his directorial debut. Reichgott considers this to be a classic depiction of “the struggle between the establishment and the individual” where the head nurse “is the most psychotic character in the story.”
The production features Tim Pugliese, Shari John, George Neptune and Nolan Ellsworth along with many other long-time NST actors and will run at the Blue Hill Town Hall Theater June 7-8, 14-15 & 20-22 at 7:00pm and June 16 at 3:00pm. Call today to reserve your ticket: 200-4720. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for students and seniors.
